A Special Customer
We have a few kids who are regular patients of ours that come in on their own while their mothers are shopping. They are funny in that they feel comfortable enough to follow us right into the lab while we fix their glasses or clean them. They are not suppose to be in the lab but I've never said anything and they chat or ask questions about all the neat stuff in the lab. One such little fellow came in yesterday.
His face broke into a smile as he recognized me under my hat. "Where have you been?" he asked, "I wondered where you were." I smiled and told him I'd been off for a while but I was back now. He followed me into the lab to fix his glasses and he told me what he'd been up to in his ten year old enthusiasm and told me he was getting a Wi for Christmas and what games with it. All at once he says to me, "Did you get a haircut?" Now, my hat completely covered my bald head so I thought it was funny he asked me this instead of why I was wearing a hat. I explained to him that I had been sick and had Chemo and that made me lose my hair. His little face became so concerned so I quickly told him I was ok now and he smiled a big old smile and just like that he went off into what else he was getting for Christmas. Kids are so funny and honest and unafraid to just ask.

good morning robbin....you are doing so well, I can hardly believe it! I wish I had half your strength right now :(
on a happier note, so nice to know you are out in the world again and I would bet, thinking about moving?
the hair thing is no big deal... in california, it seems the fashion to not wear a hat or anything if you have had chemo....it's a badge of courage, of honor, it seems, to the women I have seen without it.....of course, our weather, until today , has been warm.....then there are scarves...that is also a big one here, tied around in African fashion....some are gorgeous! :)
keep getting stronger!
I go to an alternative doctor and I go often so I see many women with cancer or in treatment......I guess that's why I noticed it more....as an explanation...I am rather deliriously sleep deprived at the moment.
xo
Kids, just gotta love them for their honesty.
The other day Superhero said, 'Santa's fat just like you, Memaw.'
He wasn't being rude or fresh, just honest, so I couldn't get mad.
Their honesty is refreshing and less rude than adult avoidence.
BIG FAT T HUG
children are just great that way...so honest...so accepting!
Linda, I wish for you so much to be pain free and to be able to live your life that way.
It is good to be out in the world, and I don't think I'd ever be brave enough for no hat at all and I love the scarves african style but I don't know how to tie them.
Stay strong, and know I think of you often and send healing thoughts and prayers your way.
Shirley, Tammy and Memaw, I know you gotta love the honesty of a kid, and it would pay us to remember to see the world through their eyes.
